What Is a GMA Pallet?

A GMA pallet is a 48-inch by 40-inch wood pallet that conforms to the specifications originally established by the Grocery Manufacturers Association. The GMA standard has since been adopted across virtually every industry in North America because of its compatibility with standard racking, trailers, and warehouse equipment.

GMA Pallet Specifications

  • Dimensions: 48″ length × 40″ width × 5.5″ height (approximate)
  • Weight: 35-50 lbs depending on wood species and construction
  • Deck boards: Typically 5/8″ or 3/4″ hardwood or mixed hardwood/softwood
  • Design: Three-stringer design with 9-board top deck and 5-board bottom deck
  • Load capacity: 2,500 lbs dynamic, 5,000 lbs static

GMA Pallet Grades

  • Grade A: Premium quality. Like-new condition, no broken or missing components.
  • Grade B: Good working condition. Minor wear acceptable. One board repair or less.
  • Grade C / Combo: Functional with visible repair. Best for one-way shipments.
